Creating a stronger first impression
Before the refurbishment, the reception featured a large, dated timber desk, dark flooring, suspended ceiling tiles and older lighting. Although functional, the space no longer provided the modern arrival experience expected from a professionally managed commercial building.
The completed reception is almost unrecognisable.
A new reception desk provides a cleaner, more contemporary focal point while improving the layout of the working area. The previous dark floor has been replaced with herringbone-effect flooring, adding warmth, texture and visual interest throughout the space.
Deep blue lounge seating, occasional tables, planting and carefully selected finishes have created a comfortable waiting area for visitors. The colour scheme combines dark detailing with softer neutral tones, giving the reception a professional appearance without making it feel overly corporate.

One of the most distinctive elements of the refurbishment is the bespoke ceiling feature.
The map-inspired design incorporates a prominent compass motif, creating a direct visual reference to the building’s Castle Gate location. Integrated perimeter lighting draws attention to the design and gives the reception a strong architectural identity.
Contemporary wall lights, new window blinds and updated glazed entrance detailing complete the transformation. Together, these elements make the space feel brighter, more considered and better connected to the character of its Nottingham city-centre setting.
Meeting room improvements
The meeting room was refurbished as part of the same project, ensuring that the improvements continued beyond the reception.
Providing a professional meeting environment is particularly important within multi-occupancy and managed commercial buildings. It gives occupiers access to a well-presented space in which they can host clients, conduct interviews and hold internal meetings.
By delivering the reception and meeting-room works together, Exeid Support Ltd was able to create a more consistent experience throughout the building’s shared areas.
A practical commercial refurbishment
Successful refurbishment is not simply about changing how a space looks. It must also consider how the building is used every day.
At St Nicholas Court, the completed scheme balances design with practicality. The reception remains an effective working area, while also providing comfortable visitor seating, clearer circulation and a much stronger sense of arrival.
The result is a reception and meeting facility that better supports the building, its occupiers and the businesses using it.
